RUGELEY shoppers will be able to park for just 10p in a town centre car park in a bid to beat the post-Christmas lull.
Cannock Chase Council is offering the 10p parking after 3pm on weekdays at Forge Road car park and Cannock’s Avon Road car park from January 2 2014.
The six-month trial was approved by the council last week.
Although it is estimated the council will lose £8,000 in income from parking fees it is hoped the scheme will encourage more shoppers into Rugeley and Cannock town centres.
The council plans to consult with both towns’ traders associations before the scheme is introduced.
Councillor Diane Todd, Portfolio Leader for Town Centre Regeneration said “We have listened to local traders and want to do all we can to help increase trade into our town centres.
“It is another example of the council trying to support its town centres and sits alongside the funds the council is putting in to the centres to improve their appearance and encourage retailers to take on vacant units.”
