STAFFORDSHIRE needs warming up and Age UK Stafford and District is calling on you to help.

Put February 7 in your diary now and be part of the thousands across the UK to get involved in Bobble Day and help make winter a better season for older people.

Taking part is so simple and so much fun. All you need to do is wear something warm! From digging out your woolly jumpers and wearing them to work, to tea mornings or winter walks – whatever you do will make a difference for older people.

Of course the wackier and woollier it is, the more money you are likely to raise. Thousands of people took part last year and many of them even got their stories in local newspapers.

Ideas to get you started:

Fancy taking part, but struggling for inspiration? Why not try one of these ideas?

Work that woolly

Have you got a novelty knit at the back of your wardrobe? Or a favourite fluffy jumper you can’t bear to part with? Maybe those sparkly legwarmers deserve an outing, or that Sherpa hat you bought on your travels?

Everyone and anyone can Wear it Woolly on Bobble Day for a suggested donation of £2 - and stay snug while helping someone older stay warm.

Warming Morning

Get Bobble Day off to a great start with a Warming Morning. Whether you serve up speciality teas, frothy coffee or hot chocolate with whipped cream, you can ensure your friends and families begin the day with a warm feeling inside.

Why stop there? Give your guests home-baked cookies to dunk or serve up bacon butties for breakfast.

Top tipples and tasty treats

Give your guests a glow when you invite them round for an evening of mulled wine or hot toddies. Or get competitive and challenge your friends to a dinner party contest.

Will your spicy signature dish trump their family favourite? Can your friend’s canapés triumph over your neighbour’s nibbles? Be warned – things could get heated!

How does your fund-raising help warm up Staffordshire?

£5 pays for a warming visit from a befriender to an isolated older person.

£12 pays for a home visit to check energy efficiency and insulation.

£20 pays for a warming emergency food pack.

£100 provides ten older people with a vital winter pack of clothing, food, information and thermometers to keep them warm and well.
