ANIMAL-LOVERS and football fans from across Stafford have been rallying in an attempt to 'Save Bobby the Badger from the cull'.

Fans of the beloved Stafford Rangers mascot responded to the story broken exclusively in last week's newsletter that Bobby's future at the club was uncertain, launching a Facebook page dedicated to saving him from the chop.

The header on the Save Bobby the Badger from the Cull page reads: "Say no to a new mascot at Stafford Rangers. We don't want a cow, panda, zebra or any other animal, in fact we love Bobby the Badger."

And they were even treated to messages purporting to be from their 'hero' as it seems Bobby himself stopped by on the page to say: "Some people say I scare kids. I love kids, I am very sorry if I have scared anyone. I'm just a cuddly badger at heart."

Posting on the page, Claire Wilson said: "Bobby the Badger is brill with kids. How can people think kids are scared of him."
