The National TV Awards 2014 were certainly one to remember. The awards, which took place last night (22nd January) at London's O2 Arena, were quite emotional for the Geordie duo Ant and Dec.
The infamous cheeky lads won Entertainment Programme with I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! as well as earning the Entertainment Presenter title for the thirteenth time! But it was the Landmark award to celebrate 25 years in showbiz which set them off, accepting it with teary eyes before posing for a selfie with the crowd.
Not only that, the pair also received the royal seal of approval with a video tribute from Prince Charles saying: “The warmth and empathy they show towards charitable causes, their viewers and their deep friendship towards one another are as great achievements as their countless and well-deserved awards.”
Coronation Street also won big, walking away with two awards after an action packed week. Julie Hesmondhalgh, whose character Hayley committed suicide earlier in the week after a right-to-die storyline, was awarded the Serial Drama Performance and the soap won Serial Drama for the third year running.
Another multiple winner was Dr Who with the show being awarded the Drama gong and Matt Smith receiving the Drama Performance award. The actor was unable to attend the event due to staring in American Psycho in the West End, so Jenna Coleman and Steven Moffatt accepted on his behalf.
The Newcomer award went to Khali Best from EastEnders and Strictly Come Dancing won the Talent Show gong.
