A WOMAN has been taken to hospital following an accident on a busy Stafford road this afternoon.

The two vehicle collision happened on Ash Flats railway bridge on the A449 at Mosspit, near its junction with Gravel Lane.

Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 2pm. A woman was taken by ambulance to University Hospital of North Staffordshire but her condition is unknown.

A Staffordshire Police spokeswoman said a Vauxhall Corsa and Nissan pick-up were involved in the crash. The road was closed to allow recovery to take place and a diversion put in place.

Police were directing traffic at the scene and travel was reported to be very slow northbound at the Gravel Lane junction.

Also this afternoon one lane of the northbound M6, between junction 14 at Stafford and 15 at Stoke on Trent, was closed because of a broken down vehicle.
