THE Barmy Army were back in town today for the annual charity cricket match held at Stafford CC, Riverway.
This is the 12th year the event has taken place in aid of Sir Ian Botham’s Charity Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.
Last year the event raised £4,304 for the North Staffs Branch of the charity and this year Barclays Bank have agreed to sponsor the day and match the fund-raising up to £1,500.
The event attracts people from all over the country and is a Barmy Army reunion in an Ashes summer.
Tomorrow’s event again features Stafford CC Barmy Army Tourists against The Rest of England's Barmy Army and goes on all day and evening. There is also a bar, barbecue, sports auction, raffle and evening music with everybody welcome.
The score stood at 6-5 in the series to The Rest of England’s Barmy Army and the Avro Trophy awaits this year’s winners.
