BASWICH councillors are due to meet Co-op bosses today, Monday, to discuss parking problems at the firm's Baswich Lane shop.

A Baswich Community Group meeting heard there were parking problems caused by the numbers of cars parking near the shop, and grass verges were being damaged.

The meeting heard the shop building was built in the 1960s at a time when their were fewer cars on the roads.

Councillor Anne Edgeller said there was no county council money available to extend the parking area. But she added: "I don't see why the Co-op shouldn't pay as it is their customers that are parking there, and I will be raising the issue with them."

As a Baswich resident, I should point out that on many occasions when this car park is full, there are only one or two customers in the Co-Op store. There is another business and a Church nearby so I would therefore suggest that the Co-Op is not made solely responsible for the cost of expanding the car park.
