Matlock Town 0 Stafford Rangers 2
STAFFORD Rangers pulled off one of the shock Evo Stik Premier results of the weekend when inflicting at home defeat on Matlock Town.
Matlock had only lost one previous league match at home this season, yet Graham Heathcote's charges came away with a fine 2-0 triumph.
Rangers, who had keeper Andy Jones from Winsford making his Boro debut, grabbed the lead just a minute before the break, somewhat against the run of play.
The visitors were awarded a penalty and full back Andy Griffiths made no mistake from the spot.
Before the hour mark, Rangers had surprised the home support again when sub James McCarthy made it 2-0.
However, it was another day when the club just above them in the fourth relegation spot, Witton Albion, won again, leaving Rangers still 14 points behind and a further two points off safety.
Rangers, who also signed Chris Smith from neighbouring Chasetown on Friday evening - he was on the bench at Matlock - visit title-chasers FC United of Manchester on Tuesday evening, at Gigg Lane (7.45pm).
Meanwhile, Jermaine Johnson, who left Marston Road last weekend, has joined Chasetown, while Boro midfielder Matty Burke has also been released by Heathcote.
