THE sudden weekend heatwave greeted the runners of Sunday’s Westbridge 5 mile race at Stone.
But despite the high temperatures, 217 runners started out in conditions more suited to spectating than running to battle with towpaths, lanes and footpaths in this multi-terrain race,

Stone Master Marathoners fielded 14 runners with Mick Downes first in for the club in 32.48.
First Stone MM lady was Rachel Yates in 37.26 with Pam Davies clinching the over-60s prize in a time of 40.13.

All profits from this year’s Westbridge 5 will go to the University Hospital of North Staffs Neonatal Unit.
Race Director Amy Gamble said:“It is hoped that £14,000 can be raised during 2014 to buy a cooling mattress to treat babies with hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy. The Westbridge 5 will have contributed about £2,000 towards this goal and I’d like to thank all the runners and sponsors of this year’s race”.
