STAFFORD is the crem de la crème according to a new report into the best-performing bereavement services in the country.
The Tixall Road crematorium beat off competition from 29 other candidates to make the shortlist of the eight in a nationwide search by Apse – a voluntary data benchmarking service for local authorities - to find the top cemetery or crematorium service.
The council-run service achieved Gold status from the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management (ICCM) in 2013, was awarded the Green Flag for a second consecutive year as one of the best open spaces in the country, and is part of the Environmental and Health team which achieved the government backed Customer Service Excellence Award.
Councillor Frank Finlay, cabinet member for environment and health, said: “The feedback from the public about the service we provide is always very positive at what is often one of the most difficult times for families and loved ones.
“But it is always good to have this feedback endorsed by independent organisations - such as the ICCM or Apse.
“I was pleased we made it on to the shortlist and hope that next time we can go one better. But in the meantime we will continue to provide the excellent service residents, and those outside the borough, have come to expect from us.”
