STAFFORD Rangers U18s finished the year on a high, running out 3-2 winners at second placed Leek Town.
This success enabled the Boro side to move nine points clear at the top of the County Youth League.
Rangers eventually opened the scoring through Mat Smith.Boro increased the lead when an Alex Curtis cross was met by Sean Phillips who smashed home an unstoppable shot from ten yards.
Leek scored from a corner which was not cleared to cut the deficit, before Rangers quickly responded and Smith grabbed his second of the game.
The second half was a really good contest, much more even and Leek needing to gain something from the fixture to keep on Rangers heels in the title race changed formation and threw players forward.
Leek netted a second with 20 minutes remaining, and Rangers had to defend resolutely in the closing stages to hold out for a vital win. It was three points as Rangers seek to retain their title they won last season.
