PROFIT from car parking charges to motorists in Stafford almost halved in a year according to new figures.
A report by the RAC Foundation revealed Stafford Borough Council's profits in the year to 2012 were £384,000 compared with £791,000 the previous year.
It was the third successive reduction with the authority recording profits of £1,078 in 2009/10.
Nationally most councils are generating a surplus from car park charges totalling £565 million in 2011/12.
A spokesman for the council said: "The RAC figures show profit from parking charges in Stafford borough is down on the previous year so it is obvious we are not making record amounts from car parking. The cost of parking in Stafford has not gone up for around four years and the money from off -street parking helps maintain and improve car parks."
