Burglary suspect escapes police by running across the M6 near Eccleshall

A BURGLARY suspect ran across both carriageways of the M6 near Eccleshall to escape police.

Officers were called to a property in Hanchurch at around 3.50pm on Monday after reports of a burglary.

Two offenders disturbed by the alarm fled the scene.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: “One offender was seen to run down the embankment and across both carriageways of the motorway before climbing up the embankment near to the Eddie Stobart yard.

“The man was then seen walking towards Hanchurch Village Hall.”

The offender is described as 5’11, medium build, wearing a dark coloured beanie hat a grey jumper and camouflage combat trousers.

A 32-year-old man from Newcastle was arrested on suspicion of burglary and remains on police bail pending further inquiries.

Police are appealing to anyone who saw the incident or has any information to call 101 quoting incident 443 of 2 December or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
