BURTON Manor scored a last gasp goal to secure the Stafford and Stone School Partnership (SSSSP) mini soccer championship at Rowley Park.
A record turnout of girls and schools saw an entertaining day of action with last year’s winners Burton Manor battling it out with Oakridge Primary School for top spot.
Both teams stayed undefeated all day winning all but one of their games and the title was decided on goal difference.
Burton Manor came out on top after scoring in the dying seconds of their last game and in turn beating Oakridge’s goal difference by one solitary effort.
After a well-contested competition, taking third place were Parkside and in fourth spot were Barnfields.
It was the second year running that Burton Manor had won the title and they will now represent the SSSSP in the Staffordshire School Games Winter Festival at Stoke in February.
Steve Glover, partnership development manager, said: “It was great to see a record number of girls participating in the tournament with the standard very much on the increase.”
