A CANALSIDE cleaning crew turned Time Team to help unearth a tramway in Rugeley.
Volunteers from the Lichfield Branch of the Inland Waterways Association discovered the tramway remains near the Trent and Mersey Canal while they were clearing overgrown shrubs and greenery.
The tramway is believed to have been used to carry coal from the canal to the Rugeley waterworks a century ago.
On Friday the volunteers were back to clear more overgrowth and repair an historic wall.
They will be clearing ground scrub on Sunday and anyone who wants to help should meet at the rugby clubhouse on St Augustine’s field, next to the church, on Station Road at 9.30am.
