Roads around Cannock's Orbital Retail Park, including the main A460 route, were closed for nearly six hours on Sunday evening after a car crashed into a gas sub-station.

The collision, which involved a red BMW 3 Series happened at around 7.10pm near the Sainsbury's petrol station.

The impact led to a gas leak from the sub-station and police and fire crews set up a 300 metre exclusion zone to ensure the safety of the public. This also meant evacuating staff from the business park.

No-one was injured in the collision but officers have arrested a Brownhills man, believed to be the driver of the vehicle, who made off from the scene. He is currently being questioned by officers at a local police station. Anyone with any information is urged to call Staffordshire Police on 101.
