A MAN had a lucky escape when his car burst into flames after colliding with another car in Stafford today.

The Ford Fiesta was travelling along Wolverhampton Road, near the Star & Garter pub, when it collided with a Ford Focus at around 2pm.

The collision is thought to have ruptured a fuel line gauge, which caused it to set on fire. The man, in his early 20s, escaped the blaze unharmed. The driver and passenger in the Ford Focus were also uninjured.

Wolverhampton Road was closed off by police as fire fighters from Stafford tackled the blaze. The car was left burnt out and the road remained closed one way for emergency road repairs as the road surface was also damaged.
