ROB Wharne got the new Stafford Snooker League season off to a superb start with a century break.
Wharne turned out for Institute A in their opening division one league clash at Universal G and claimed his sixth such century in league play.
But despite Wharne's excellent form, his team slipped up 3-2 to the Doxey based hosts.
Leading the way in week one were the trio of Derrington A, Perkins Saints and Rangers A, all of whom recorded 4-1 victories.
Derrington A triumphed against visiting Bradley House A, while Perkins and Rangers A saw off challenges from Rugeley and Constitutional C respectively.
There was also an opening day success for Constitutional B as they edged home 3-2 at Woodseaves.
In division two, Derrington B matched the A team by chalking up a first-match 4-1 triumph at Institute B.
There was an identical scoreline for Universal N, at Blymhill A, while Constitutional D defeated Blymhill E by the odd frame.
Four matches were played in division three and three produced away victories. Blymhill D visited Rangers B and returned home with a 4-1 success under their belts. Institute C matched that result when entertaining Blymhill B.
The other two fixtures produced 3-2 wins for Derrington R and Perkins B.
Derrington R travelled the short distance to Burton Manor B, while Perkins B celebrated at Rangers C.
The other top breaks were achieved by Scott Billingsley (28) and Charley Swift (25).
