CHASE parliamentary hopeful Janos Toth has slammed Stafford Hospital administrators for letting costs get ‘out of hand’ calling for an independent investigation into the money spent to date.
Janos Toth, Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for Cannock Chase told the Newsletter he was ‘very concerned’ about ‘spiralling’ costs of the process of administration at Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust which totals £9.25million to date.
“The costs are still going up and all of this money could have been spend on Cannock and Stafford Hospitals,” he said. “How is this spending on accountants and bureaucracy helping our NHS?
“There is real anger in the community about the whole process, but allowing the costs situation to get so far out of hand is really adding insult to injury.”
Mr Toth called for the situation to be reviewed independently by a Parliamentary Committee.
“Furthermore, concerns have been raised with me by Cannock Chase residents as to the expenses claimed by the individual Administrators, which total £130,000 to date and are still rising,” he said. “The figures which have only been released following a freedom of information request show joint-administrators Alan Bloom, Alan Hudson and Hugo Mascie-Taylor, together with up to 26 other members of staff have so far spent £48,746.72 on accommodation, £44,178.37 on train travel, £10,885.75 on car travel, £14,907.43 on taxis, £10,007.55 on subsistence, £1,280.74 on other expenses and £13,636.71 incurred but yet to be claimed.
“I am extremely concerned by the level of these expenses and call for them to be investigated by a body such as IPSA -The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority who oversee MPs expenses,” said Mr Toth. “The people of Cannock Chase deserve answers to these questions and I for one won’t rest until we have them.”
The overall cost of the administration process to date is £9.25million which comprises £2.5million for the recommendations made by healthcare regulator Monitor’s contingency planning team, around £6 million for the trust special administrator process and £750,000 for the 40 day time extension to the TSA process.
