AFTER two league events, Walton Chasers orienteers were lying second in the West Midland League series.
It was home territory for round three at Beaudesert on Cannock Chase and heavy rain over the previous days had made the area very wet and muddy in places.
Despite difficult conditions, Matt Mardling made a good go of his first event planning and nearly 400 competitors, split over eight courses, took part.
The top ten places were expected to be harder than usual, particularly on the blue and green courses with 184 competitors between them!
Iain Stamp had his usual good run and finished fourth on the brown course ahead of Bob Dredge in tenth.
On the blue course Allan Williams also finished fourth, with Ray Collins sixth and Andy Yeates seventh. Kelvin Dawson was the only top ten result on green, while the short green course saw Sarah Hind in first place, with Chris Boycott third and John Batchelor sixth.
Jill Dickinson was seventh (light green), while Megan Colclough took third on orange, ahead of Holly Craig (tenth). June Cairns-Smith in fourth, (yellow) with Mary Webb seventh. Esther Mardling was third on the white course.
