AFTER two league events, Walton Chasers orienteers were lying second in the West Midland League series.

It was home territory for round three at Beaudesert on Cannock Chase and heavy rain over the previous days had made the area very wet and muddy in places.

Despite difficult conditions, Matt Mardling made a good go of his first event planning and nearly 400 competitors, split over eight courses, took part.

The top ten places were expected to be harder than usual, particularly on the blue and green courses with 184 competitors between them!
