WALTON Chasers orienteers just missed out on a place in the final of this year’s CompassSport Cup when contesting the elimination round on the Wrekin.
The Wrekin is a steep, wooded oblong hill and the courses on offer tested all the competitors to the maximum.
Against tough competition, Chasers put in some great top ten performances.
On the 4.5 km blue women’s course Jo Thompson came 5th, with Cath Williams in 10th, while on the 4.7 km blue cup course, Andy Yeates took 5th place.
The 3.4 km green women’s course saw Beth Clayton in 3rd place, Claire Bushnell 6th and Tracy Craig in 8th, while on the 3.7 km green men’s course, Bob Dredge finished eighth and John Robinson in 10th.
Hazel Waters took 3rd on the 2.7 km short green course, with Matthew Hartland fourth on the 2.6 km light green course.
Over the 2.6 km orange course Holly Craig took 3rd place, Holly Stodgell was 5th and Henry Webb 6th. Alex Walton finished in 6th place on the 2.2 km yellow course.
After the count up of team points, Walton Chasers finished in third place, just outside the qualifying top two teams who will go through to the CompassSport Cup final.
The next Chasers event is on Sunday March 3, on Cannock Chase. This event is open to non-members. See www.walton-chasers.co.uk for more details.
