The second phase of the Riverside development, which includes a six screen cinema, will be built at Bridge Street, on the site of the former Express and Star office. There will also be units for shops, restaurants, pubs or offices. The applicant was submitted by LXB, which is also developing a new shopping centre on the neighbouring former Tesco site and a Morrisons store on Kingsmead car park. Plans for the Riverside complex went on show in Bridge Street in February and were viewed by more than 150 visitors. Retail giants planning to open stores in the shopping centre include H&M, M&S and Debenhams.
