CHURCH NEWS: The First Mass of Christmas is at 8pm on Christmas Eve at St John’s.

There will be Carols by Candlelight at St Michael’s at 6pm on Sunday, and on Tuesday, Christmas Eve, there will be Carols at the Crib at 3pm. The First Communion of Christmas starts at 11pm on 24th (this is a change of time from previous years).

At St Stephen’s, on Sunday, there will be Carols by Candlelight and Blessing of the Crib at 4pm, followed by mince pies and mulled wine. Midnight Communion starts at 11.15pm. Festal Holy Communion, the Patronal Festival of St Stephen is at 10am on Sunday, 29th December. This is held over from the 26th.

PARISH COUNCIL: There will be no meeting of the Council on Thursday, 2nd January 2014.

SUPERFAST BROADBAND: BT Openreach have been working along the A513. At present, there are no plans to connect the Haywoods with the Superfast Staffordshire Project. However, residents can indicate their interest in Superfast by contacting BT on www.superfaststaffordshire.co.uk and can thereby register it.

SPORTS AND SOCIAL CLUB: There will be Karaoke in the Club, hosted by “Tina” on 21st December. On Christmas Eve, “Big Dave” will host Karaoke.

CURB RAFFLE: The memorial charity is organizing a fundraising raffle. Tickets, at £1 are available from local shops. The draw will be at 9pm on Saturday, 21st December in the Red Lion, Little Haywood.

LIBRARY VAN: The mobile library will be in Hixon on 23rd and in Great Haywood on 24th.

PUB QUIZ: On 2nd December, the Clifford Arms beat Ye Olde Windmill; the Lamb and Flag beat the Saracen’s Head; the Bank House “A” beat Ye Olde Dun Cow, and the Bank House “B” beat the Sports and Social Club. These results mean that the Sports and Social Club have surrendered their first place in the League to the Clifford Arms, who now lead by two points.

PLANNING: Recently, there has been an application sent in by Broadcrown for a new production unit at Factory Unit 5, Hixon Airfield Industrial Estate, and there is an application to retain a single storey side extension at 5, Abbey Gardens, Great Haywood.
