STAFFORD’S council chief sent a crackle down the airwaves when he joined the board of a fledgling community radio station.
Borough council leader Mike Heenan has thrown his weight behind the efforts of volunteers at XL FM in their application for a full-time FM community licence in the second half of 2013.
Mr Heenan said he was very excited about joining the team in his role as a non-executive director.
“Stafford needs it’s own radio station, and in the short time I’ve been working alongside the XL team, I’ve seen a committed and passionate group of volunteers, which made my decision easy,” he said. “We’re going to focus our time on winning the licence and I’m confident we’ll succeed.”
XL FM programme controller Stu Haycock said he was thrilled with the appointment.
“With Mike on board, we have piece of mind that everything will be done correctly,” he said. “It allows us to concentrate on the things we know, which is radio.
XL FM broadcast online 24 hours a day through its website www.xl-fm.com and can be accessed via the Tune In app.
