TRAFFIC problems on a Stafford road have become a “nightmare”, a councillor claims.

Barry Stamp, borough councillor for Church Eaton, is urging parking chiefs to rectify problems in Greyfriars Place “before an accident occurs”.

The area has become overflow for town centre parking, particularly since the closure of the nearby Dunelm car park.

Councillor Stamp says town workers parking their cars on the street has made it almost single-track meaning it is only a matter of time before someone crashes.

Councillor Stamp, who works in the Greyfriars area, is particularly concerned about the strip of road between the Dunelm car park and the Greyfriars Way junction.

He said: “The cars parked there block the view of cars leaving the car park and they often run head-on towards oncoming cars. As I use this road two or three times a day I have seen a number of near misses and I am sure it is only a matter of time before an accident occurs.

“Equally, the single-track road leads dri- vers to frustration and, during the rush hour turns the road into a nightmare as drivers compete to get past the parked traffic without delaying their journey.”

Parking bosses at Stafford Borough Council have agreed to put the problem about the strip of road between the on their list of issues to address.
