STAFFORD’S Cure the NHS campaigner Julie Bailey has been awarded a CBE in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours list.

The campaigner, who revealed her concerns about Stafford Hospital exclusively to the Newsletter which prompted her to set up Cure the NHS, has been rewarded for services to the care of older people.

Her concerns brought to light failings which resulted in poor care at Stafford Hospital and prompted a public inquiry.

Gnosall nurse Helene Donnelly has been given an OBE for services to the NHS, while Colwich Parish councillor Anne Clendon has been awarded the British Empire Medal for services to the community in Great Haywood, and Peter Dartford, chief fire officer of Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service has been awarded the Queen’s Fire Service medal.
