DEVELOPERS planning a new multi-million pound shopping centre to Stafford said today they were days away from announcing a public exhibition to show off their plans.

Carl Barrand, speaking on behalf of Property Investor LXB – whose £70million Riverside complex, due to open in 2016, will consist of 18 shops including a Debenhams, a Marks and Spencer and a six screen cinema – told the Newsletter work was gathering momentum.

“The old car park is coming down pretty quickly,” he said. “We are currently in discussion with five retailers that have yet to be announced for the shopping centre.

“I would hope to have a date for the public exhibition in the next week or so.

“We’re pressing on and hopefully people in the town will take that as a sign of our intent.”

Mr Barrand was not prepared to confirm any retailers for the complex while commercial conversations were ongoing but a Debenhams and a new Marks and Spencer were confirmed at a planning meeting on May 8 2013 when approval was given for the development.
