HUNDREDS of packages of meat and equipment has been seized following concerns about a suspected illegal meat production operation in Stafford.

An investigation by Stafford Borough Council prompted county council trading standards officers to visit three premises in Stafford, Uttoxeter and South Derbyshire.

They seized meat labelled as high-end products such as venison which did not have authorised health stamps.

It is thought health stamps from other businesses may have been fraudulently used. Initial analysis of test items has shown meat contamination.
