AN ART group celebrated its first creative year on Saturday by staging its debut exhibition.
Doxey Art Group, which formed last year, includes complete beginners who have been taught to paint by Stafford Art Group’s Sue Chatterton.
The budding artists meet at Doxey’s St Thomas and St Andrew’s Church on Tuesdays from 7pm to 9pm. The church also hosted Saturday’s exhibition, where work was sold alongside handmade cakes.
Kirsty Higgs from Doxey Art Group said: “The number of visitors was high, well over 100, and the hall was more or less constantly buzzing with discussion, chat and general socialising.
“The atmosphere was lovely with many local people as well as people making a special journey to the event. MP Jeremy Lefroy called in and spent some time looking at the work and chatting to the artists along with his wife and they clearly enjoyed the time spent.
“Artists were demonstrating technique throughout the day and there was a chance for people of all ages to have a go and take their painting home with them.
“Sales of tea, coffee, cake and a raffle all had proceeds going to the charity Combat Stress and to pay for hiring the hall from donated goods and prizes.”
