Doxey residents call for housing masterplan

COMMUNITY leaders in Doxey are calling for planners to turn down an application to build 170 homes.

Developer Bellway Homes (West Mids) Ltd and landowners Saint Gobain Ltd want to build the houses on land south of the main Doxey road.

Stafford Borough Council's emerging local plan requires that 2,200 houses are built to the west of Stafford.

Of that, 500 are to be built in Doxey.

Residents say Bellway and Taylor Wimpey outlined plans in July last year to build hundreds of homes and provide necessary infrastructure between them.

Neil Thomas, of Doxey Parish Council, said in December Bellway decided to go it alone without providing those facilities.

The plans include two accesses, one of which is near Doxey Primary School.

"Our concern is the local plan is calling for a masterplan to cover the whole development." he said. "We think that's a good idea."

Resident Greta Feenan, of Somerset Road, said: "We are losing wildlife areas hand over fist to building in Stafford. It's clear that the borough council is hell bent on joining Doxey housing with that of Castlefields. There are enough building projects currently in progress in the area."
