DRIVERS are being warned to take extra care as Staffordshire is hit with a deluge of rain and severe weather is expected for the rest of the week.
Head of risk reduction at Staffordshire Fire and Rescue, Glen Luznyj, said the wet conditions created by the heavy rainfall over the last few days could see an increase in collisions, many of which could be avoided if people checked their vehicles regularly and drove with caution.
“I would urge people to check the condition of their vehicle’s tyres and to allow extra time for journeys so that they are not in a rush," he said.
"It is important to take into account the extra braking distance needed on wet road surfaces and people should never drink and drive, use a mobile phones while behind the wheel and drive while over tired.
"These are simple safety tips but they could have life-saving consequences.”
