ECCLESHALL Rugby Club could soon be on the move after bosses announced they were looking for a new home to cope with increased demand.

The club has played on different pitches around the town since it was formed 35 years ago, but has been based at Baden Hall since 1992.

They are now looking for a piece of land to buy to create a permanent base to allow for expansion.

Eccleshall 1XV play in Midlands 3 WN and their 2XV are in the Staffordshire Merit League. This season the club hopes to run a regular 3XV.

Junior and Mini rugby has also flourished at Eccleshall over the last 10 years and now the club has more than 140 junior members providing rugby for children aged from three to 18.

Club chiefs are looking at sites of 20 acres and above within a five-mile radius of Eccleshall to ensure there is room for future growth and to maintain the club's identity and community links.

Members, supporters, sponsors and the local community are all being urged to become actively involved.

To maintain the club identity and links with the local community, a distance of no more than five miles from Eccleshall will be considered for the club's new home.

Chairman Tim West said: "This is a very exciting time for our club. We know that finding a suitable site and putting in place the funding won't be easy but we are determined to succeed.

"On the field our new coach Steve Dolphin is already coaching record numbers at pre-season training. We have recently won the Stafford 7s and we are looking forward to a successful season for all our teams."
