SANTA'S TOUR: There is no doubt that Santa hats will need a good washing after the awful weather experienced during the tour of Santa's sleigh up to Christmas. The members and friends of the Rotary Club of Eccleshall Mercia, including the Yarnfield team pictured, collected fro nine sessions and the funds raised will benefit local causes and Rotary Charities.
The club's quiz team is through to the 2nd round of the Rotary District which is being played at the Lord Hill Hotel in Shrewsbury on January 24.
ECCLIAN LUNCH: The first lunch of the new year will take place at the Red Lion in Sutton about 6 miles southwards on the A591 towards Newport. on Wednesday January 15 12noon for 12.30pm. The organiser is hoping for good weather.
FELLOWSHIP GROUP: The group meets at the Methodist school room on Tuesday January 14 starting at 2pm.
The next monthly coffee morning will be on Saturday March 1 between 10.30am and 12 midday in the school room.
LUNCHTIME CONCERT: This lunchtime Thursday January 9 the first of the new year starts with a light lunch and musical entertainment from Barry Brewer and Peter Wilshaw with memories of the 60's. The event takes place in the Holy Trinity parish room starting at 12.30pm admission is £5 including lunch.
COUNCILLOR'S SURGERY: Borough Councillor Peter Jones is having his bi-monthly surgery in the library on Thursday January 16 between 10am and 12 noon. If you would like to raise any matters with hum do pop along.
REFUSE LORRY: The extra refuse lorry will be in the Stone Road opposite the Methodist Church on Saturday January 18 between 9am and 11am. If residents have rubbish or large or small items of furniture they wish to get rid of this would be a good time.
WOMEN'S INSTITUTE: Peter Chamberlain is the guest speaker tonight Thursday January 9 at the parish room starting at 7.30pm His talk is entitled, "The role of a magistrate".
POETRY GROUP: The next meeting is on Thursday January 16 when the poems theme will be Yeats and Heaney starting at 2pm in the upstairs room at the library.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: The Katharine House Hospice shop in Eccleshall is looking for volunteers to work in the shop. We could all make a difference by volunteering our time to help in the shop. For more details contact Bev or Chris on 01785 850844.
TREFOIL GUILD: The guild members will be meeting in the community centre on Thursday January 16 starting at 8pm.
HOSPICE QUIZ: The first of the new years quizzes in aid of the Katharine House Hospice takes place at the community centre on Wednesday January 22 starting at 7.30pm.
ECCLESHALL GUIDE: the 16th edition of the Guide was delivered to Creative Copy n Colour earlier this week and it is hoped to start the delivery around the area by the end of the month.
NOTTINGHAM KNOCKERS: The Neighbourhood Watch have just been contacted by the police to ask for assistance concerning doorstep salesmen referred to as Nottingham Knockers. They are pursuing enquiries to see if there is any connection between recent cold callers and the burglaries we have suffered in the area. They are asking us all to report immediately if anyone comes knocking on your door trying to sell you something.
