Eccleshall - week beginning February 20

LUNCHTIME CONCERT: The March Eccleshall concert takes place in the parish room of Holy Trinity Church on Thursday 13 starting at 12.30pm. A light lunch will be followed by musical entertainment provided by Mary Scott the local harp player. Admission is £5 which includes lunch. The concerts are a pleasant friendly occasion which usually attracts a goodly sized audience of local folk. This is the last of the current season and will hopefully re-start in the Autumn.

SPORTSMAN'S EVENING: Eccleshall Football Club are hosting a Sportsman's Evening in support of injured player Matt Bradbury, featuring ex-Liverpool, Spurs and Villa player Neil 'Razor' Ruddock, plus comedian. The event is at Knutton

Ex-Servicemen's Club on Saturday 5th. April. Tickets are £20 (incl pie and peas), limited to 200. For further details, ring Steve on 07770724708.


Residents of John Pershall Court and Lonsdale Court in High Street, Eccleshall have banded together and decided to book a stall for the Eccleshall festival street market on June 21st.

Nothing special about that the street market has around 80 stalls each festival. The difference is the average age of the stall holders - its 90 years of age.

Setting a fast pace for the younger members of the community.

Sylvia Tapley, June Holland, Ann Beswick and Rachel Bailie are part of the team that will man the stall during the 6 hours of the market. They will be baking home made products and selling bric a brac. If members of the community can help with items to sell please get in touch with June - she is the young one only 80 year of age - 07907289638.


The Eccleshall Farmers Market takes place under the arches at the Royal Oak in the High Street this Saturday February 22 between 9am and 1pm. The stalls are made up of traders from within a 30 mile radius of the town and provide a wide range of food stuffs and other items. For information contact 01785 850361 after 6pm.

ECCLESHALL GUIDE: The 16th edition of the Eccleshall Guide is currently being distributed around the area and additional copies will be available from News Express and the library. The publishers would like to thank the advertisers for their customary support. TENNIS CLUB: Eccleshall Tennis Club are holding their annual club Supper at the "Kings Arms " Eccleshall on Friday March 7 at 7pm Tickets £14.00 per person

They also announce that the AGM will be held at the clubhouse on Thursday March 27 at 8pm.

ECCLIAN CALENDAR: David Pownall the man who puts the calendar together each year is already looking for suitable photographs for the 2015 edition of the popular product. If you have any suitable photographs of Eccleshall please give David a call on 01785 851018.

100 YEAR ANNIVERSARY: If you are interested in taking some part in the anniversary of the start of the WW2 please get in touch with Jan baker from the Eccleshall Historical Society on 01785 851036.

The Society next meets at the community centre, Shaws lane, Eccleshall on Wednesday March 12 starting at 7.3pm when the guest speaker will be Dianne Mannering on the subject of Henry Stafford and the princes in the tower. Visitors are always welcome.

POETRY GROUP: The group meets this afternoon in the library starting at 2pm with the suggested theme of the poems to be Wild Flowers.

ECCLESHALL WIVES: The members will gather in the parish room on Thursday February 27 for their AGM starting at 8pm.

THE FORGOTTEN ARMY: The Solitary Bees is the theme of the next Wildlife talk being held at the parish room tomorrow Friday February 21 starting at 7.30pm. The guest speaker is Ron Rock and the evening is sponsored by Perry's butchers.

WOMENS FELLOWSHIP: Our love of birds is the theme of the guest speakers at the fellowship meeting on Tuesday February 25 in the Methodist church schoolroom starting at 2pm. Norman and Gill Greatholder are the speakers.

MEN'S FELLOWSHIP WALK: On Friday February 28 the men are off on a walk around Eccleshall from 10am and finishing at the Kings Arms for lunch around 12 noon.

DANCE PROGRAMME: The Entertainments committee of the Community Centre Association have arranged a programme of dances at the centre running up to the New year. The next will be held on April 12 with Mick Denver providing the entertainment.

PRESCRIPTIONS ONLINE: The Crown Surgery are now able to provide an online repeat prescription ordering service as an addition to the ore usual collection service. For full details ask in reception the next time you visit the surgery.
