Eccleshall - week beginning June 13

FESTIVAL ROUNDUP: Today sees the start of the Festival days of entertainment on the town with the Cricket Club's wine festival over two days. Tomorow and Sunday June the Ecclian Society Open Gardens weeded takes place with programmes on sale from the High Street library on both days and 12 gardens open to the public.

The Burton Borough School band plays swing at the Holy Trinity Church tomorrow at 7.30pm admission on the door £5. On Monday June 16 the Eccleshall Mercian Rotary Club presents a family walking treasure hunt meeting at the Royal Oak at 5.30pm for a 6pm start. The Indoor Bowls Club has three events planned for the Festival. On Monday between 1.30pm and 3.30pm a free open session is offered and on Tuesday June 17 a free skittles evening id on offer from 7.30pm to 10pm, and finally on Thursday June 19 the club offers another open session bowls evening all at the community centre.

On Tuesday the Men's Fellowship Walk takes place starting at the Lych gate of the Holy Trinity Church at 5pm for a gentle stroll around the Eccleshall countryside. Suitable for all.

On Tuesday the Joules Fun Quiz takes place in the Grand Room at the Royal Oak starting at 7.30pm. £2 per person no more than 6 per team. Admission by ticket available from the Oak. The |marquetry Club open night is on Wednesday June 18 (and not on Tuesday 17th as shown in the programme) starting at 8 - 10pm.

There is a World War One evening in the library starting at 7pm and there is a fashion show at the Katharine House Hospice Shop starting at 7pm for 7.30pm with admission at £5 including wine and nibbles.

On Friday June 20 there is an extra special Acoustic Night at the Royal oak starting at 8pm admission is free.

And then on Saturday June 21 the Festival street market with over 60 stalls, live music, a monster truck, Austin Sevens, food stall, Morris men, brass band, community choir, owls and Strictly for kids, The Eccy Factor, Scarecrow Fest.

In the Parish Room Teas to please on Saturday 9.30am to 5.30pm. Black country comedy with Dandy at the community centre on Saturday June 21 starting at 8pm.

There is a window display competition for the shops with shopper voting and a Quiz Trail where you get the answers but have to find the questions in the show windows. +The Holy trinity Church tower is open for a tour on Festival weekend.

On Sunday June 22 there is a special Festival Praise service in the Holy Trinity Church to celebrate the events starting at 6.30pm.

GREAT WAR PROJECT: Another event organised by the Historical Society will take place at the library tomorrow. This will be an exhibition of World War One memorabilia. Also planned is the presentation of a limited number Commemorative Books based upon the Eccleshall Great War Project to various parties during the afternoon. These books will be available for viewing during the day.

THIRD AGE GROUP: On Monday the group meet in the Methodist Church room at 2pm.

BLOOM SPONSORS: The full and impressive list of sponsors of the 2014 hanging baskets is now on display throughout the town, dozens of individuals, businesses and clubs etc have once again supported this floral effort by the Ecclian Society.

The results if the sponsorship and the effort can now be seen in the town centre.

MOVIE MAYHEM: The Broughton Community Choir presents a movie themed evening at the Croxton Church tomorrow. The Bishop Lonsdale School Choir will be taking part in the concert which starts at 7pm and admission is by ticket only at £6 from 01630 620228.

PARISH COUNCIL: The Parish Council meets at the Offley Hay village hall on Wednesday starting at 7.30pm and followed by a meeting of the planning committee. members of the public are invited to observe the proceedings.

FOUR SEASONS: The poetry group meets on Thursday June 19 in the upstairs area of the library between 2pm and 4pm, the them is The Four seasons.

CANAL TRIP: the members of the Eccleshall Wives group are planning a canal trip on Thursday June 26.

ANCESTORY AT THE LIBRARY: Eccleshall Library will be running a session on using the online Ancestry (library edition) website, on Tuesday 10am – 12noon. Places are free, but limited. Contact the library (01785 850452) if you would like to book a place.

GARDEN TOOLS STALL: The Ecclian Society have again organised a stall selling tools and garden equipment at the Festival street market on Saturday, June 21.

Are you “downsizing” in the near future, or do you know someone who is?

ECCLIAN LUNCH: Since it will be festival week the organisers have booked the Kings Arms for the June lunch on Wednesday starting at 12 for 12.30pm. If members would like to go please get in touch with David Pownall.

LIBRARY DIARY: A diary of local events is kept at the High Street library which can be completed by clubs or individuals arranging events. It's purpose is to try to avoid events clashing which often happens as groups do not know what else is occurring on the same dates. Do please use the diary.

CARE 4 A CUPPA: On Wednesday spend some time catching up with friends and family or colleagues at The Artisan from 10am to 4pm. The Artisan will be donating 50p from each drink to the Donna Louise Children's Hospice.
