MARTYN Wheeler scored a last minute winner as FC Stafford fought back to take three points against ten-men Malvern.
The long trip to Malvern on Saturday saw an FC side which was decimated by the V Festival with only 14 players making the 120 miles round trip.
Jake Robinson was however able to welcome back Sam Nicholson and Dave Wilcocks to the squad with the latter being added to the starting 11 along with Andy Willacy and Jamie Lowman.
The game took a long time to get going as Stafford were keeping the ball well but found the Malvern defence resolute.
It took until 24th minute for the first effort on goal when Malvern broke and saw a good chance blocked by Matt Deane.
Stafford soaked up the pressure with the next ten minutes and responded when Martyn Wheeler clipped the post, Ryan Brown fired narrowly wide and Ben Bloor couldn't find his feet and directed his shot at the goalkeeper.
After the break, the game looked like it would be won by a single goal, Stafford thought they had this when strong work by Willacy saw his cross met four yards out by Alec Birch who unfortunately managed to clip the ball of his hand and it was disallowed.
It took until the 75th minute for the dead lock to be broken and it was the home side whose centre back powered home a header past the impressive Lowman.
Stafford pressed and again saw chances squandered until a Matt Rhodes pass saw Bloor race into the 18 yards box only to be severed down from behind.
With Malvern down to ten men Rhodes stepped up and slammed his penalty into the side netting to level the scores.
FC continued to press and saw positive work from Nicholson and Willacy result in the ball tucked away for what looked like the winner only for the offside flag to be shown for the formers position.
This was to be Stafford’s day and when Wheeler's pass ran through to Bloor he rolled his foot over the ball and around the on coming goalkeeper to slide the ball home in the 90th minute.
FC Stafford host Newport Town this Saturday at Rowley Park.
