A TEAM of young Rugeley engineers have raced ahead to the national finals of an electric car challenge.
The Fair Oak Academy students are relative newcomers to the Greenpower challenge, having joined up last year.
But they have worked their way up the board to be placed 39 out of 177 teams, fighting off competition from many schools who have several years’ experience of the competition.
School teams across the country have built and raced their own cars powered by batteries, competing in endurance races at nationally renowned motor circuits including Aintree.
On Saturday the Fair Oak team travels down to Goodwood Motor Circuit in West Sussex to compete in the national finals, alongside other teams ranked in the top 75.
