A THIRD of Stafford Borough voters went to the ballot box for yesterday’s European elections.

The turnout in Stafford Borough was 33 per cent, a council spokesman told the Newsletter.

It was lower than the 42.66 per cent turnout reported for the 2009 elections, when Stafford’s electorate also had Staffordshire County Council elections.

Yesterday’s European Parliament poll was the borough’s only election, but residents of neighbouring Cannock Chase and Newcastle under Lyme had district council elections too.
