Police are appealing for witnesses after a man died in a road crash near Stafford.

The collision happened on the A518 at Billington Bank at around 1.10am on Sunday March 9 and involved a white Peugeot MPV and a pedestrian.

A paramedic support oficer and an ambulance were called out, but the pedestrian, a 34-year-old man, died at the scene. He has not yet been formally identified.

The driver of the Peugeot, a 53-year-old man, was uninjured.

The road was closed until around 3.25am while specially trained officers carried out an examination of the scene.

Officers are keen to hear from anyone who travelled along the A518 between Stafford and Haughton during the early hours of Sunday morning and saw anyone walking along the road.

Witnesses are asked to contact PC Bryan Lovatt at Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 53 of March 9.
