MORE parents are being urged to take their children to a pre-school near Stafford to ensure its survival.
Numbers have been dwindling at Dunston Pre-School Playgroup which has been running at the village hall for 30 years.
The pre-school is open to youngsters from the age of two from 9am to 12pm Monday to Thursday and now also holds two afternoon sessions from 12-3pm.
But manager Irene Bowers said numbers had been lower this year and they were concerned if numbers continued to fall it could put the group’s future in jeopardy.
“We just want to remind people that we are here,” she told the Newsletter. “The room is registered for 26 children by Ofsted and we normally take up to 20, but at the moment we have got between 12 and 15 during the full days and some mornings there are only around six children.
“We need to get more people in but because we’re a little out of the way I think it’s easy to forget we are here.
“The pre-school is very family orientated and is run by parents and grandpar- ents. We always encourage parents to really get involved.
“Many of the children who come here eventually go on to St Leonard’s School, which is next door.
"A number of the children here also go round to the school for a hot lunch or packed lunch.
“We would encourage anyone interested to get in touch with us.”
