CASTLE VALE JKS 2 BROCTON 5

FOR the second successive game, Brocton went nap, running out 5-2 winners away to Castle Vale JKS, in the Midland Combination premier.

An impressive second half performance secured this latest triumph for the Badgers, who lead early on, but then had to come from behind to take all three points.

After both sides created chances, it was Brocton who opened the scoring when Dave Berks was tripped in the box and the same player, who struck a hat-trick the previous week, made no mistake from the spot.

But the lead lasted only five minutes.

Castle stepped up the tempo and Brocton were caught over-playing. Jack Jayes brought the home side level, then Roy Dunkley snapped up a rebound off Brocton keeper Adam Whitehouse.

Brocton were ragged for the remainder of the first half and it took some solid defending to prevent a buoyant Castle side from increasing the lead.

Sam Bell continued his comeback from injury as a second half substitution and was joined by Joe Pickering, adding more pace to the Badgers attack.

Pickering was denied by a post, while at the other end, Whitehouse reacted well to thwart the home side.

However, Brocton finally got back on level terms when Charlie Jones pinched the ball in midfield and sent Berks clear to score his and the visitors’ second.

Brocton continued to press and Dan Lomas’ superb 35 yard strike went in off the inside of a post to restore the lead for the Silkmore Lane outfit.

Chances became plentiful and only the legs of the Castle keeper kept out a further effort from Pickering.

After a point blank header from Bell was cleared off the line, Whitehouse kicked long from the Brocton box and Berks raced in but saw his effort drift over the home keeper and the bar.

But Brocton were not to be denied further goals and in the dying minutes, Pickering was on the mark, then Lomas made it five in the closing moments.

The Badgers will be looking to repeat the dose on Saturday when they face Castle Vale in a return fixture at Silkmore Lane (3pm).

Brocton team: Whitehouse, R Jones, Bloor, Fleming, Chandler, C Jones, Harvey, Ablewhite, Fox, Berks, Lomas; Used subs, Pickering, Bell, Bourne.
