WHEN Stafford Road Club invited international riders to take part in their annual grand prix in 1967, they hardly expected to take top honours in all the races - and they didn't.
Victory went to a Wolverhampton Wheelers rider Alan Lloyd, who had just returned victorious from the Warsaw-Berlin-Prague stage race . . . Stafford's best rider was Bill Whitworth coming in tenth in the 80-mile race.
Stafford's Colin Clews was one of the favourites in the petit prix but had to change wheel on lap three and lost 400 yards but club members could still hold their heads in pride having been told that he had been picked to ride for Britain in the Tour of Jugend.
Road club members P Betteley and S Probert came equal ninth in the 50 mile race.
