Some good news this week, writes Friend of Victoria Park, Victoria Wood.
I have been talking to some of the organisations who,hopefully, will be entertaining us in the Park during the Summer and we are beginning to have the framework of a very exciting programme of events.
Our good friends the Crooked Bawbees, together with Stafford Morris Men have confirmed their attendance on July 20 and the Maypole dancers and our lovely Folk dancers will be back on May Bank Holiday Sunday May 5.
I think I am most excited at the moment about the fact that,at last, after a gap of several years, we will have a Brass Band playing in the Bandstand on three Sunday afternoons. The British Legion (Stoke) band will be playing for us on 11th May, 8th June and 27th July. If you were at the Rememberance Service at the Gatehouse in November, you will know exactly how outstanding their music is.
Of course, we will start the Summer with our usual Easter Egg Hunt on Easter Sunday morning. Easter is on 20th April this year, so it should be nice and warm,maybe.
We still have a few people who we are waiting to hear from, so there are going to be some interesting and exciting Sunday afternoons in the Park this Summer.
Looking back through the history and old photographs, the Park has hosted all kinds of events, fom Bowling Tournaments to parades of decorated baby prams, gramaphone concerts (not sure how those worked) and back in the day, Brass Bands every Sunday.
