AN HGV that burst into flames on the M6 this morning closed several lanes of traffic and caused rush hour traffic to crawl to a halt as firefighters fought to control the blaze.
Firefighters were called to the fire on the northbound carriageway of the motorway between junctions 13 and 14 at 7.10.
A spokesman for the fire service told the Newsletter crews from Rising Brook and Penkridge arrived to find the lorry ‘well alight’.
She said firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the blaze with hose reel jets, remaining on the scene afterwards ‘damping down’ the vehicle, before closing the scene just after 9am.
Two lanes were closed on the motorway while emergency services dealt with the fire.
No one was injured in the incident.
