Tried and Tested Face Wipes

Always on the lookout for a quick, easy and effective way to remove make-up after a hard day’s work, Lydia Fallon puts a selection of face wipes to the test.

Soap and Glory Off Your Face™ Cleansing Cloth Face Wipes, £4.50, Boots

I’m a big fan of Soap and Glory products (mainly due to the uber cute packaging!) but was left a little disappointed by these wipes. The cloth material was super soft on my skin but I found the smell to be too sickly sweet and they didn’t remove eye make-up as well as some of the others. However they did leave my skin feeling silky smooth, refreshed and like it had had a proper clean, so a thumbs up for that.

Simple Kind To Skin Cleansing Facial Wipes, £3.20, Boots

My skin can be quite sensitive and I have always found Simple’s no-frills products to be some of the best for my combination. These wipes promise happy, fresh faced skin and although I am unsure whether it feels happier (how do I tell?!) it definitely feels fresher. These wipes proved to be some of the most moisturising and they passed the waterproof mascara test with flying colours. A big hit.

Champneys Spa Skin All In One Facial Wipes, £4, Boots

These wipes are not as wet as some of the others, and I felt they left my skin feeling a little dry. The smell is gorgeous, one sniff and I felt like I had been whisked away to a plush spa but for the price, they were a bit of a let down.

The Body Shop Tee Tree Cleansing Wipes, £5.50, The Body Shop

I absolutely loved how refreshing these wipes were, it was like having a bucket of cold water poured over me (in a good way!). They left my skin feeling all tingly, which I presume is a sign they are working, and I felt like my whole face looked clearer and brighter. They were gentle on my eyes when it came to removing mascara and are a product I will definitely pick up again.

Boots Essentials Cucumber Wipes, £2.03, Boots

As a self-confessed own brand snob I was sceptical about these wipes but actually found them to be pretty amazing. A bargain at just £2, they were soothing, refreshing and really gentle on the skin. They managed to remove even the most stubborn of make-up (we’re talking Saturday night eyeliner!)  and didn’t dry out my skin as so many wipes do. Admittedly the strong cucumber infused smell is better first thing in the morning rather than last thing at night, but for that price I’ll put up with it.
