ECCLESHALL crashed 7-1 at home to a very strong Formby side in North West Counties division one on Saturday.
In what was the Eagles’ first match in five weeks, they wilted in the second period and the promotion-chasing visitors took full advantage, but not before Eccleshall had grabbed a 12th- minute lead through Dan Jones who latched on to a long clearance from his keeper, Stuart Plant.
One of two new Eccleshall signings on show was Nathan Calvert, but he was booked in what was a bruising opening to the game.
Formby were level on 20 minutes when Michael White converted a penalty after a clumsy challenge in the area.
Too often, Eccleshall were let down in the final third and Formby made it 3-1 by the break with goals from Jason Carey and Jordan Rugg.
There was a hectic start to the second half with Eccleshall looking for a way back, but Formby’s confidence was growing and Carey made it 4-1.
The pace of Emini Adegbenro on the Formby left was posing all sorts of problems for Eccleshall and they conceded a fifth on 74 minutes when the same player found the net.
Adegbenro made it six on 85 minutes, before Carey completed his hat-trick with the last kick of the game to push his personal tally this season to 29 goals.
It was also a dismal afternoon for Eccleshall AFC in the Staffs Senior league as they crashed 9-0 at the hands of Cheadle Town.
Eccleshall were always chasing the game after conceding five first half goals. Pick of the Cheadle goalscorers was Mark Hodson with four.
This Saturday, Eccleshall will hope for better fortunes when visiting Irlam in the league (3pm), with Eccleshall AFC at home to Norton FC. Eccleshall AFC are also in Leek Cup açtion at home to Hanley Town on Wednesday (7.30pm).
