England make promising start
India were in rebuilding mode after England's bowlers made a fine start to the second one-day international in Kochi.
Between 55,000 and 65,000 fans crammed into the Nehru Stadium for what was expected to be another high-scoring affair, but the deafening noise quickly subsided when both India's openers fell for single figures inside five overs.
Steven Finn and Jade Dernbach both took a wicket, before Yuvraj Singh (32 not out) and Virat Kohli (16no) set about a reconstruction job that saw the hosts to 71 for two after 15 overs.
Finn started with admirable control given the white hot atmosphere, conceding just four runs in his first two overs.
At the other end Dernbach saw his third delivery disappear for five wides down the leg side but he hit back in admirable fashion in his second over.
Immediately after conceding the first boundary of the day he took advantage of a loose Gambhir stroke to peg back his off stump, celebrating in ecstatic fashion as the crowd fell silent.
They barely had time to recover when, just three balls later, Finn coaxed one off the seam to bowl Ajinkya Rahane through the gate and make it 18 for two.
Dernbach almost made it three wickets in as many overs when he found Kohli's inside edge but the ball missed the stumps and scurried away for four.
Finn's first four overs cost only five runs but Yuvraj began to up India's modest run-rate with a couple of fours to take them to 44 after 10.
Yuvraj added his fourth and fifth boundaries in the space of three balls, from Chris Woakes and Samit Patel, to keep India ticking over.
