A HORSE was killed after it collided with a 4x4 on a country road near Seighford last night.

Commuters were stuck in traffic for several hours after the B5045 near Hexall Lane was closed in both directions following the accident.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: “We received a call just before 5pm reporting that two horses were lose on the road near to the Stan Robinson depot.

“This was followed by a call from the fire service to say they were in attendance,” she said. “One of the horses had been in collision with a vehicle, a Land Rover Range Rover and was lying in a ditch nearby.

“The other horse was secured, but sadly the horse involved in the collision died a short time later.”

She said the vehicle sustained ‘extensive damages’ in the incident and confirmed a full report was being submitted to force traffic processing department.

The road reopened shortly before 8pm.
