NURSES at Stafford General Infirmary were told that their hospital had a “pleasant atmosphere” and heard of “the friendliness of the town in general’ when they attended the 1967 prize-giving and reunion.

The words were those of the recently-deceased Lady Bagot, who presented prizes for those who had recently qualified or awards for notable achievement.

During the event, it was announced by hospital chairman Mr RAB Thomas that the first phase of a new hospital was due to start next year between St George's Hospital and North Walls.

Among prizewinners were Nicole Tompkinson, Helen Gerner, Joanne Bennion, Michael Phillips, Margaret Ramgoolam, Athaline Kirby, Lillian Salt, Berenice Teale, Patricia Johnson, John Kelsall, Monica Sharratt and Mrs M Carter. Some of the prizewinners are shown.
