AN INNOVATIVE Stafford councillor is up for a national ward for his local work in digital engagement.

Littleworth ward councillor Rowan Draper was nominated for the Digital Innovator of the Year award at the CCLA Councillor Achievement Awards by Stafford Borough resident and social media campaigner Steve Burrows who praised Councillor Draper’s work locally engaging with constituents online.

“Locally Councillor Rowan Draper is a leading example of how to use social media to engage with and inform constituents through the use of Twitter, Facebook, WordPress and Storify,” said Mr Burrows. “Because of Rowan’s excellent work in these areas I have nominated him for the Local Government Information Unit's ‘Digital Innovator of the Year’ award.”

Councillor Draper said he was ‘especially grateful’ to have been nominated for the national award.

“Serving in local government, and on Stafford Borough Council, has been a life-changing experience for me and one I would not swap for the world.

“The past eighteen months have been so memorable,” he said. “Regardless of the final result I will continue to do what I do locally, and on social media, but it’s nice to know that trying to make a difference doesn’t go unnoticed.”

A shortlist for the awards will be produced in the New Year.
